da Vinci Robotics for Women

Gynecologic surgery treats problems of the uterus and surrounding anatomy.
The most common method to treat these conditions through surgery has involved a long abdominal incision. Yet with open surgery can come significant pain, trauma, a long recovery process and a threat to surrounding organs and nerves. In addition, thinking of the period of pain, discomfort and extended time away from daily activities can cause significant anxiety for many women.

Robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery is less invasive, allowing the surgeon to work through several keyhole incisions around the abdomen. The robotic arms of the da Vinci Surgical System operate within these ports, with the surgeon in full control of his or her actions throughout the procedure.
Though less invasive, robotic technology does not compromise the surgeon's ability to complete difficult gynecologic procedures. Rather, it allows the surgeon to perform a more precise operation than is available through open surgery. When surgery is performed robotically, there is less pain and a faster recovery. These results are attributable to the high dexterity and visualization afforded by robotic technology.
